Hearing set for accused rapist
The preliminary hearing of a Daly City man charged with raping an intoxicated 15-year-old girl and leaving her half-naked behind a paint store will be held in August in South San Francisco Municipal Court.Randy Pollard, 19, is charged with felony rape of an unconscious person, unlawful rape of a minor, grand theft and possession of stolen property, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday, but defense attorney Christine Mazzei requested a continuation that was granted.
After allegedly raping the victim, Daly City police say Pollard then stole her cell phone, which officials used to track him down. He was arrested over Memorial Day weekend.
Pollard and the victim were drinking at a house party on April 14, according to the district attorney's office. Prosecutors allege that when the victim drunkenly wandered away from the party, Pollard followed her, raped her and then stole her cell phone.
Around 6 a.m. the next morning employees of Dunn-Edwards Paints, on Junipero Serra Boulevard, found her lying half-naked behind the store. She was still intoxicated and had no memory of how she got there, according to the district attorney's office. Testing showed that she had been raped.
Pollard pleaded not guilty May 27. He remains in custody on $75,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 5 for his preliminary hearing.
