Pit bull care group awarded for their animal training
Bay Area pit bull rescue and education group BAD RAP (Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pit Bulls) has received the American Humane Association's 2006 award for Best Practices in Behavior and Training, BAD RAP reported Friday. The American Humane Association gave the organization the award at BAD RAP's annual conference, recognizing the organization for its Pit Ed training classes, which helped 250 pit bull owners and sheltered pit bulls live peacefully in 2005.
The award comes as part of the American Humane Association's effort to eliminate euthanasia of millions of healthy adoptable animals through a campaign called "Getting to Zero.''
BAD RAP reports their classes offer pet owners tools and "know-how'' that will prevent dogs from being given up for adoption for bad behavior. BAD RAP also aims to make sheltered pit bulls more adoptable.
BAD RAP's executive director Donna Reynolds said, "We're very grateful for the AHA's recognition. The classes have shown us that some of the easiest solutions to our most difficult dog-related challenges are as simple as extending a helping hand and offering the gift of training, information and support.''
BAD RAP offers classes on Saturdays in Berkeley near Berkeley Animal Care Services.
For more information contact the organization at (510) 414-6461.
